Finding Jane

The Story of the Williams and Galloway Families

Williams Family Story

Abraham Cewood Williams Sr. was born March 10, 1866 in Guadalupe County, Texas. His mother was Jane Richardson (1844-1920) and he had four siblings - Ellen Haynes, Henry Clay Galloway, Laura Galloway Trapp & Kitty Craft McLemore. As a young child, Abe began working as a farm laborer, but his passion was horses. He became a well-known wild horse rider, with the repuation of being able to break wild horses no other man could break.

While living in San Marcos, Texas he met Eliza Durham (b. 2/7/1866) – the two were married on August 15, 1886 in Comal County, TX. The couple would eventually raise twelve children together. Abe Sr. farmed throughout Texas, in many counties, and moved from San Marcos to Guadalupe County to San Saba to Lampasas and eventually settling his family in Terrell, Texas. With each new move Abraham Sr. was able to provide more for his family and they continued to prosper.

Abraham and Eliza would live on their farm in Terrell, Texas for the rest of their lives. They enjoyed having their many grandchildren visit them and the children loved to sit and listen to Grandpa Abe tell stories about the family. By all accounts, Abe Sr. was a well respected man by all who knew him. The two are buried at Old Oak Cematary in Terrel, Texas.
