
Henry Clay Galloway Sr. was born
Soon after, Lovina Smith and her family moved to San Saba from
Henry Sr. eventually leased a ranch south of San Saba called the Old Salt Ranch – he worked for fifty cents a day and saved in order to purchase the Ranch from Marlin Dickerson. With that purchase Henry owned 213 acres of land and began building a cattle and horse ranch. He would go to

Henry and Lovina built a schoolhouse on their property and hired a teacher for their children. Four of their children attended college. The San Saba News called him "one of the colored pioneers of [San Saba County]" and that he was "one of the most widely known of his race in this part of the State." Henry Sr. passed away on January 8, 1937 and his wife Lovina passed away on November 28, 1955.
